My vignettes are captures from contemporary culture imbedded in psychologically charged environments that speak to the discourse around youth, autonomy and the growing influence of social media. As explorations of the curated identities we present online, each piece is a story within a larger tale hinting at an irreverent yet tender period of adulthood.
Many of the faces in these paintings are cropped with contexts obscured, directing viewers’ attention towards the more universal language of the body. It is this zooming in on limbs, torsos and objects, this anonymity that offers audiences an opportunity to develop their own stories and draw their own conclusions about the real-life, repeat characters who inhabit my narratives.
